Lucas Leigh

Lucas Leigh began playing piano at a young age, garnering regional attention for his heart-pounding piano skills by the age of eleven. What started as a hobby in his family’s living room in Hernando, Mississippi, has now turned into a life’s passion for Lucas. “I can’t imagine my life without music,” Lucas said. “If I couldn’t do anything else in life at least I’d still have music.” His musical career began at the age of 3 with a fascination for the piano even though he couldn’t reach the pedals. As a 5-year-old Lucas begged his parents for piano lessons, to which they agreed. Not long after, frustrated, he dropped the lessons in favor of less structured practice; he did not like reading the notes on a sheet of music but preferred creating his own versions of songs like Great Balls of Fire, Tutti Frutti, Hey Jude, and Old Time Rock and Roll.
After years of switching between playing the drums and piano, Lucas had established a unique sense of rhythm, which would only expand in his career. One highlight of his career occurred in 1993 at age 11, when he played with long-time hero Little Richard on stage in Memphis, Tennessee. “I can’t believe I had the courage to ask Little Richard if I could play, but he said yes when I did,” Lucas said about the experience. Performing a heart-pounding rendition of “Great Balls of Fire” alongside Richard and his band earned Lucas an invitation to play in concert with another long-time hero, Jerry Lee Lewis at a rock-and-roll anniversary in Memphis That, coupled with the support of his loving family and friends, helped pave the path toward his passion for music and performance.
And he’s done just that having played more than 300 venues across the globe with more than 50 national acts, including an array of genres: jazz, rock-and-roll, country, bluegrass, folk and just plain old freeform jamming! He and his wife irish have also started a baking company which began in December of 2014. Visit their website today at BakedByIrish.com
