Lucas Leigh has been attracted to the piano since the age of three-years-old, before he could even reach the pedals. As a Mississippi native, he instantly became a frequent listener of boogie-woogie, specifically Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Ray Charles. By age six, Lucas picked out melodies
and tunes and eventually figured out chords to go along. Soon, he began drawing attention from friends outside his own family and played his first paid gig at the age of 9.By the Age of 14 he had appeared in concert with Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Bill Haley’s Comets and had won second place in the Mid-South Fair Talent Competition—held annually in Memphis, Tennessee, with more than 5,000 entrants competing.
Throughout high school and his college years, Lucas played with several bands including The Jack Straw Band, Maria y El Sol, The Ward, and many other groups, as well as focusing on his solo act where he frequented piano bars, hotels, and restaurants.
Extremely professional, the University of Mississippi graduate boasts he has “never missed a gig.” In fact, he’d rather be playing than anything and often goes into overtime for the audience. “It could be 4 a.m. and I don’t even know what time it is because I am so into it,” he said. “I can sleep later.” But it looks like he won't be sleeping anytime soon—As of September 2007, Lucas lives and works in the music industry full-time in Nashville, Tennessee. He's doing session work and plenty of live entertainment with his first original Nashville project, New Vitamins.
